SHIP/SHAPE: A Parallel Journey. By David Rogers, published on Jan. 24. 2025

BLOWING ROCK, N.C. — We have often heard the phrase “… two ships passing in the night…”, but how about two married artists on ships journeying along parallel paths?

That’s what we have at the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum, an exhibit of married couple David Finn and Page Laughlin, a sculptor and a painter, differently exploring nautical themes.

It is at once a curious, creative, innovative, and thought-provoking exhibit entitled, “Ship/Shape,” and for Blowing Rock News it got even more intriguing after sitting down and talking with the two artists. The exhibit opens Jan. 25 and runs through May 4, 2025.

BLOWING ROCK — The artists at BRAHM’s new exhibit, “SHIP/SHAPE: Page Laughlin and David Finn” have been getting ready for opening day on Jan. 25.

Page Laughlin and David Finn’s work centers around an ever-present icon in culture and language: ships.

The seed of this exhibit was planted through Laughlin’s growing fascination with ships. What began as a curiosity soon evolved into a compelling exploration of how ships symbolize more than just modes of transportation.

High Country Visions: Watauga K-12 Art Educators Exhibit at BRAHM - Dec. 16, 2024

By David Rogers. BLOWING ROCK, N.C. — Experiencing tragedy or disaster brings trauma and, hopefully, healing to follow. After Hurricane Helene swept through western North Carolina, including the High Country, the various affected communities rallied to accelerate the healing process from the storm’s utter devastation.

In its own unique way, Blowing Rock Art and History Museum has jumped into the healing movement, including the introduction of its most recent special exhibition, High Country Visions: K-12 Educators. The exhibit runs through Dec. 29. Admission to the museum is free.
