2025 Summer Internships
Position: Program and Outreach Intern
The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum is a non-profit museum (on the corner of Ginny Stevens Lane and Main Street) in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. Its mission is to promote visual arts and history and to celebrate the rich heritage of the mountains. The Programs and Outreach Intern is exposed to all facets of public program development and promotion for a Museum or not-for-profit organization. During the 120 hour period, the intern will:
Learn how to manage an institutional calendar
Responsible for a public program:
Development
Marketing
Set-up
Execution
Clean-up
Create and distribute press releases
Research and apply for at least one grant
Assist in collecting and transcribing oral histories
Create an oral history audio collage for the BRAHM listening station
The ideal candidate will have exceptional verbal communication skills, strong written communication, public speaking experience, flexible schedule, demonstrated interest in museums or not-for-profit institutions. This position requires some nights and weekend work. Those dates will be set before the beginning of the internship.
Interns are expected to be available by June 1, 2025, with work completed by August 15, 2025.

Position: Special Events Intern
The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum is a non-profit museum (on the corner of Ginny Stevens Lane and Main Street) in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, a small village nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its mission is to promote visual arts and history and to celebrate the rich heritage of the mountains.
The Special Events Intern is exposed to event development, promotion, and facilitation for a Museum or not-for-profit organization. During the 120 hour period, the intern will:
Experience the nuances of organizing two major fundraising functions, including a formal gala with live and silent auctions for a Museum.
Be responsible for facilitating and/or aiding:
Volunteers
Marketing
Set-up
Participating in the event
Database management
Work closely with supervisor to understand institutional rhythms of communication.
Learn the process of soliciting organizations for support or sponsorship.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional attention to detail, an ability to converse engagingly with a variety of demographics, strong verbal and written communication, a flexible schedule, and an interest in museums, not-for-profit institutions, or fundraising and event coordination.
Important dates: June 26, with possible evening hours. June 27, probable full day. July 12, possible evening hours. August 8, and August 9, evening hours required.
Interns are expected to be available by June 1, 2025, with work completed by August 15, 2025.

Position: Education Center Intern

Be Responsible for public youth and/or adult educational programs including:
Program Development
Management of an institutional calendar
Marketing
Set-up
Execution of program(s)
Clean-up
Client follow-up surveys
The ideal candidate will have exceptional verbal communication skills, strong written communication, experience working with adults and children, flexible schedule, demonstrated interest in museums, art education, or not-for-profit institutions. This position may require some evening or weekend work, those dates will be set before the beginning of the internship.

Position: Blowing Rock Plein Air Festival Intern
The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum is a non-profit museum (on the corner of Ginny Stevens Lane and Main Street) in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, a small village nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its mission is to promote visual arts and history and to celebrate the rich heritage of the mountains. The Blowing Rock Plein Air Festival is a 5-day event held each August, drawing 100 artists from the United States, and over 600 buyers from the region.
The Blowing Rock Plein Air Festival Intern is exposed to all facets of hands-on public event development and promotion for a Museum, special event, or not-for-profit organization. During the 120 hour period, the intern will:
Be Responsible for public programs related to the festival
Marketing
Set-up
Execution
Clean-up
Database management
Create and distribute press releases
Photograph event in progress
Interface with artists, community, and art buyers
The ideal candidate will have exceptional verbal communication skills, strong written communication, experience working with the public, flexible schedule, demonstrated interest in museums, art handling, or not-for-profit institutions. This position may require some evening or weekend work, those dates will be set before the beginning of the internship.

Position: Marketing and Visitor Intern
The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum is a non-profit museum (on the corner of Ginny Stevens Lane and Main Street) in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, a small village nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its mission is to promote visual arts and history and to celebrate the rich heritage of the mountains.
Through visitor surveys and mapping, we create an image of where our visitors are coming from. This informs critical marketing strategies, helping us visualize where we may need to bolster our marketing and what demographics we are currently serving well. In this position, you will:
Revive the welcome survey our front desk staff use to gather data on visitors.
Conduct Visitor Intercept surveys off-site around the town of Blowing Rock.
Gain insight into how BRAHM utilizes the information we gather from our guests to target our marketing to off-the-mountain visitors.
Engage with our online visitors through social media polls, surveys, and comments.
Interns are expected to be available by July 1, 2025, with work completed by August 30, 2025.
