Guest curated by Jonathan Stuhlman, Curator of American Art at the Mint Museum in Charlotte, this remarkable exhibition brings together more than eighty works of American art drawn entirely from four regional private collections. Spanning one of the most dynamic periods of American art history, these paintings and works on paper (along with one sculpture), were created between roughly 1880 and 1940. They trace the rise and fall of important artistic movements as Impressionism and Urban Realism and document the emergence of a new generation of professional women artists; explore artistic activity in both the United States and Europe; and demonstrate the remarkable talents of some of this country’s most important artists.
