A message from BRAHM regarding the Jagged Path exhibition book:
The Jagged Path exhibition book includes material that was not properly cited or attributed. This was brought to our attention by the scholar Mellanee Goodman. Below is the text of the public apology that BRAHM issued to Ms. Goodman:
September 21, 2022
Dear Ms. Goodman,
Thank you for bringing to our attention that in creating a companion publication for one of our exhibitions, The Jagged Path, the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum printed your scholarly material, in some cases verbatim, without permission and without the appropriate attribution. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and myself, we offer a sincere apology. We recognize this as an institutional failure for our lack of oversight. While there was no malicious intent, we recognize the seriousness of this betrayal of trust.
BRAHM strives to uphold the highest of standards for the objects in our care and the intellectual property rights of the many artists and scholars with whom we collaborate. It deeply disappoints us to say that we did not achieve those standards in this case. BRAHM and its board of trustees will use this occasion to reflect on our procedures and priorities to identify how this failure came about and how we can prevent an occasion like this from happening again. We recognize your work for the inspiring and groundbreaking scholarship that it is.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Dean Hamric James Pearson
President Executive Director
