Debbie Bauer - Canning

The kitchen was the heart of our family.

Even though other people might say, “oh that tastes just like mom made it!” It never tastes just like mom’s because it’s a little more of this, a little less of that. It’s really a taste thing rather than follow a recipe type thing. In 1996 I put together a family recipe book, it was very difficult getting recipes from my grandma, because that’s how she cooked. There were no recipes, it was this and that. I think she just guessed at it, really, (laughs) we tried to get as close as we can, most of the time it turns out just right.
