About the Artist
Dail Dixon received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Clemson University and a
Master of Fine Art in Sculpture from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
In his 52-year architectural practice Dail was responsible for design of more than 100
single family houses. His projects at the Penland School of Craft include renovation of
Horner Hall, design of the John and Robyn Horn Gallery, the Pines Portico, Guest
House and Sleeping Cabins. His work received design awards from the North Carolina
and South Atlantic Region chapters of the American Institute of Architecture. Teaching
experience includes studios at the Boston Architectural Center, UNC Chapel Hill, NC
State College of Design and the Penland School of Craft. He is a Fellow in the
American Institute of Architecture for design.
In his parallel 60-year art practice, he has shown work at the North Carolina Museum of
Art, The Duke Museum of Art, the Ball State Museum of Art, the Greenhill Center, and
the Penland Gallery and Visitors Center. Dail has been involved in the life of the Penland School of Craft for over 25 years as a student, volunteer, architect, 19-year contributor to the Penland Auction and currently serves as a Trustee.
