Appalachian State University student Mandy Bass is pursuing a B.F.A. in Studio Arts, B.A. in Visual Arts and Culture, and a minor in nonprofit organizations. As an artist, she creates sculptural works through metal fabrication and casting. She has been captivated by the exciting processes involved in the art of casting, showing particular dedication and appreciation for cast iron. Mandy's passion and curiosity for iron quickly advanced to building an iron furnace that gained her recognition from the National Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Arts and Practices (NCCCIAP), where she received the Erik Johnson Award. As she continues her studies, she will focus on exploring different mold-making techniques involved in metal casting while furthering her understanding of varied casting processes.
