ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Fun for all ages and abilities! Learn about cast iron as a sculptural medium in this hands-on workshop. Make your own cast iron tile design by carving into a sand block mold using simple tools. After carving your design during the June 4 workshop, attend an iron pour during Iron Light at the WNC Sculpture Center on June 12 to watch molten iron being poured into your mold.
The tile molds will be carved at BRAHM, then taken to Westeren North Carolina Sculpture Center to have iron poured into them on June 12 during Iron Light. Finished tiles may be picked up after Tuesday, June 15th at BRAHM.
Iron Light is WNCSC's annual iron casting group artist residency and community iron pour. The public will have the unique opportunity to witness the process of casting iron in person! Attendees will have the opportunity to create a custom iron tile mold and watch it be poured before your eyes and be yours to keep. Other sculpture process demonstrations will be happening on site. Live music and food trucks will accommodate the event as well.
Fun for the entire family. Do not miss the chance to see roughly 2700 degree F molten iron!!
PLEASE NOTE: Limited seating available. An 80% refund will be issued if the participant cancels three weeks prior to the event. For cancellations made less than three weeks prior to the event, BRAHM will issue a refund IF the museum is able to fill the vacated spot.
