Oral History Feature | Glenn Bolick

Glen - Good.jpg

Glenn Bolick is a North Carolina legend. He is a potter, saw miller, musician, storyteller, and National Hollering Champion. We sat down with him to learn about his life's work at Bolick pottery.

"Well, we would probably have been better potters if we hadn’t had to work on production, if I was on production I’d be slanging things fast, we take more time now. I made a 1,000 and 50 pieces in one day, working for Mr. Owens, me and Lula’s brother was racing to see who could make the most, of those little cups they made for these candle companies.

We both made a 1,000 at quitting time and he went out to the ball field to play ball and I went back after supper time to make 50 more so I could beat him. But at three cents apiece, that was $30 dollars a day if you could make 1,000, we usually would make 500. But in the furniture factory at the same time $30 was a week! "
