Sharing the Work of The Digital Watauga Project

This week we want to share the work of our friends at Digital Watauga and wish you and your families a safe and happy 4th of July.

This is a color photograph of the Green Park Inn located on Highway 321 in Blowing Rock, NC. The Green Park Inn, formerly Green Park Hotel, was annexed by Blowing Rock in 1926. It was opened in 1891 and still operates today. In the photograph the main building can be seen with rocking chairs surrounding the main entrance. Potted plants are hanging along the porch ceiling. Fireworks can be seen above the building lighting the night sky. This photograph dates to circa 2000.

The principal aim of the Digital Watauga Project (DWP) is the digital preservation of Watauga County, North Carolina’s historical images, documents, and other materials. By serving as a digital clearinghouse of Watauga County’s history, the DWP encourages its members and the citizens of Watauga County to make our history more accessible to the general public while also allowing the owner of historical materials digitized through the DWP to retain ownership and control over their original images, documents, and artifacts. The Digital Watauga Project, working in partnership with the Watauga County Public Library, is a project of the Watauga County Historical Society, a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 organization.
