Coffee with the Curator

Take a walk through the galleries with Dianna Cameron, Curator of Exhibitions & Collections Director, and Zach Dressel, Curatorial Assistant, and get a behind-the-scenes look into "Photographs by Hugh Morton: An Uncommon Retrospective," a project curated by Stephen Fletcher and made possible in partnership with the North Carolina Collection Photographic Archives in Wilson Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before and after the tour, guests are invited to converse and pose questions while enjoying complimentary Hatchet Coffee and baked goods. Coffee with the Curator is free for museum members and $5 for non-members.

Hugh Morton (1921–2006) was a prolific photographer who created an estimated quarter-million negatives and transparencies during his lifetime. Morton’s photographic legacy is preserved by the North Carolina Collection Photographic Archives in Wilson Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Morton’s photographs would come to be seen in countless publications—books, magazines, newspapers, and calendars, to name only a few—throughout eight decades. Some Morton photographs have been published many times over; many others, however, have never or rarely been seen. This exhibition highlights dozens of his lesser or unknown photographs alongside some of his classics.
