Jose Chardiet was born in Havana Cuba in 1956. In 1960 he and his family moved to New Haven, Connecticut. In 1983 he received his MFA from Kent University. In 1984 he became a fellow with Creative Glass Center of America. Chardiet has a passion for teaching. He was a Professor of Glass and Sculpture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has also taught at Penland School of Crafts, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and the Pilchuck Glass School. His work is displayed at Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC; Museum of Art and Design, New York, NY; Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY; Yokohama Museum of Art, Yokohama, Japan; and Musee des Arts Decortifs, Lausanne, Switzerland.
