Hobson Lafayette Pitman

Hobson Lafayette Pitman was born in Epsworth, North Carolina. He studied at the Rouse Art School, Pennsylvania State College/University, Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, Columbia University, and also studying under other artists, such as Albert Hackman, Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Eugenie Gershoy, and John B. Flannagan, in Woodstock, NY. Pitman's art is displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Butler INstitute of American Art. Aside from his work as an artist, he earned a distinguished career of teaching at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He passed in 1972.
