Dear Educators,

Welcome to your Blowing Rock Art and History Museum! The Museum boasts a strong educational focus, and it is our sincere desire that you will take advantage of the fascinating exhibits, programs and other educational resources offered here by planning frequent visits with your students. Our field trip goals are:

• That students have an enjoyable experience while visiting the museum and are encouraged to return with their families;
• That students leave the museum with an understanding of the basic tenets of the featured exhibitions;
• That students actively participate in the experience of discussing the artwork and historic exhibits, making meaningful personal connections with their lives;
• That the museum educator asks questions and encourages discussion, and, whenever possible, provides at least one interactive, hands-on component;
• For Workshop Tours, that students experience an art activity that reinforces the concept and/or techniques discussed/viewed in the galleries resulting in a tangible, personally meaningful understanding of the artwork.

The Museum educational staff understands that gone are the days of taking classes to a museum for enrichment, or as a reward for good behavior in the spring. The pressure of high stakes testing and the focus on teaching state mandated learning standards cause us to make a field trip here educationally substantive and connected. Toward that end, many of the North Carolina Common Core and Essential Standards can be satisfied with a visit to BRAHM.
