Nearly 100 guests gathered at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum to celebrate the 153rd birthday of BRAHM’s “patron artist” Elliott Daingerfield on Saturday, March 24. The festivities also marked the upcoming conclusion of the Museum’s opening exhibit, Elliott Daingerfield: Life and Art in North Carolina, which closes to the public on Friday, March 30.
The day featured a special tour by Daingerfield’s grandson Joe Dulaney, who offered the group some insight into the personal stories behind the paintings in the exhibit and his grandfather’s life. BRAHM treated guests to cupcakes and mint julep punch, a tribute to the famous mint julep parties the Daingerfields hosted at their home each summer.
BRAHM will begin de-installing the successful Daingerfield exhibit—which has been toured by nearly 4,000 visitors since its opening on October 1, 2011—t o make way for its next exhibit, Curious Collections, which opens to the public on Wednesday, April 11. Admission to the Museum will be half-price beginning Friday, March 30 through Saturday, April 7. Guests will be able to tour the Museum’s two other exhibits, The Blowing Rock: A Natural Draw and The Historic Hotels of Blowing Rock, as well as the informative video in the BRAHM theatre.
The Museum will be closed for the Easter holiday Sunday, April 8 through Tuesday, April 10. A Preview Reception for Curious Collections will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10. Admission to the event will be $30.
